Windows live messenger freezing on sign in

Okay after looking for few weeks and trying to determine what was causing this weird laggish freezing behavior on my WLM I finnally found the answear and it is really simple, but is not that easy to understand why is it happening maybe cause WLM uses the same networking detection protocol as Internet Explorer does and somehow it starts periodically looking for new connections, the fix is just disable "Automatically detect settings" yes that's it, very easy, is not about your RAM is not about your Video Card is not about your Add-on applications for messenger it was just IE settings Thursday, March 11, PM.

This solved all my problem relating internet explorer 8 and Window live messanger freezing from time to time. Thank you soooo much :D. Thursday, October 14, AM. Thank you so much for this!! This has been the bane of my workday for the last several months!!!! Any ideas? This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.

I have the same question 2. Report abuse. But, I guess what can one expect from free software? I'd be happy to pay for it if that would guarantee that MS would actually put out a quality product.

I'm having all the same problems. Does anyone have a clue how to fix it??? Well, I don't overclock, and the only firewall I have is the windows firewall, which already has an exception in it for messenger. Still, messenger becomes unresponsive at least once a day, and always this happens when it is not being used, so I have no clue as to exactly what else is going on at the moment that it becomes unresponsive. Please read this article for a suggestion on disabling this service.

Hope this helps - I added port and it seems to have corrected the issue. If later I find it did not correct it I will attempt to disable discovery in messenger using the registry change specified in the MS KB article. I know the problem and i know how to fix it the reason it freezes in the middle of you typing is because your computer does a refresh check ever 5 min wich means your computer checks what it is doing every 5 min and if you are typing during that check it freezes till the check is over.

That is hilarious. Yeah guys, just stop typing so fast. You've got to be kidding me. Did you just make that up or do you really think that happens? That was probably the most uninformed, misleading, confused and useless "answers" I have ever seen! I don't understand what you are talking about CAn you help me?

I think this thread has to be kept alive to try and fix this problem, specifically the one in the original message which is the problem that I have. It started just as I downloaded the new messenger 8. And if it didn't do the trick, at least I haven't seen messenger freeze yet, so it at least reduced the number of freezes that occurs. Oh, and I tried adding to my firewall, and it didn't work, but this registry fix seemed to have done it.

I fixed it! I uninstalled it, then installed it again but when you install it, DO NOT install the sponsor program, after I did that, it worked again, it could just have randomly started working again and it might have been a coincidence, but try it, it could work! I too get a freeze problem with windows live messenger not beta. The problem i have is when i play music in my windows media player 11 after a few tracks my little pics eg smilies and moving pics stop moving.

Then after about 5 mins i get a pop up saying windows live messenger has encountered a problem and will now close. I have my media player set to show what im playing. I never had this problem b4 in my older pc and had everything the same. My old pc still works fine in my daughters bedroom and that went out with the ark lol. Its been like this since !.. I am very annoyed, I came looking on here thinking they would have some sort of fix by now!

Unfortunatly, I won't stop using messenger because its one of my favourite apps! Open Internet Explorer. Go to Connections tab. Click on LAN settings button. Uncheck Automatically detect settings.

It also froze on my XP SP3 directly after logging in, well after about 10 seconds. I also tried all the proposed fixed in this forum and from MS's website, that didn't work either! I finally right clicked on the WLM shortcut and selected Properties, then Advanced and finally Run with different credentials, I use an Administrator account, I left the default Administrator in the name field and in the password field typed my password I use to login to Windows.

This worked perfectly but does not make any sense since this is the credentials used by default anyway - but either way it works! Anyone have any idea as to why it works? I also tried all the proposed fixed in this forum and from MS's website, that idn't work either!

I had just the same problem with the current Build By Chance I did a cleanup of old programs and components and after completely uninstalling all versions of Dot Net yes on this old Machine I had 2.

A Tool to help removing DotNet can be found here. It started about 9 or 8 months ago, since then i was forced to use msn via a Windows XP VmWare computer.

My computer has Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed, a quad cored Phenom be 4gb ram and an HD gpu. I tried all the possible fixes on this page, but nothing seems to work for my case. For the love of God Your answer goes directly into the problem I was using trillian for about 3 months because of this problem MSN does not allow you to choose or specify what proxy you want to use I uploaded a video As of Today showing how to fix this problem!

As nothing i tried in all the forums i came across help or worked. I tried that twice and it still freezes. I can chat with someone, but, when I try to minimize or look at the page behind it, it freezes again. My prob is solved If you have extra emoticons like. Uninstall them. It worked for me. After months, my messenger works again. Dev Center. Explore Why Office? Android ASP. Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads. Remove From My Forums.

Its kind of like not responding for say 5 seconds, or sometimes longer, and then it springs back to life and goes back to normal. Wednesday, September 12, PM. Who knows: This may even work with Vista CoughCough sucks hehe. I have been reading through forums every chance i had for a couple days now and it all started with WLM not even showing up and still showing many processes in the task manager.

I re-installed Messenger a couple times. This did not work. I finally got it working after deleting some registry keys. My msn works!!! Thanks :. Posted March 27, Do you have a link for the beta of Flash Player? Does anyone have it? Searching around and around, all im coming up with is Flash for Solaris Does anyone have it hosted somewhere?
