Note: For ease of use—some of the add-ins homepages are forum posts or in foreign languages—we've linked to the reviews at WHSPlus, a Windows Home Server enthusiast blog. It's a great resource for finding more add-ins and each review has a link back to the author's site. WHS Disk Management provides a more detailed look at your disk storage than the basic view included in the console. You can use existing server wire frames most commercial WHS frames are available or create your own if you have a DIY build.
WHS Disk Management makes it easy to see what's going on with which physical disk in your server. The wire frame model includes disk bays in your tower and external drives for a comprehensive picture of what's going on with your disks. Eventually when you have to replace a disk or want to upgrade one for additional space, having a detailed model like the one in WHS Disk Management makes it easy to make sure you're unloading and extracting the right disk.
When it debuted, it had limited hardware support, no bit version, and weak built-in capabilities beyond file and app storage. On the other hand, it offered robust backup, reasonable security, and drive extender—a feature that simplified the tasks of adding and pooling hard drives.
Because the original WHS was built on an older server platform, an update was inevitable. Windows Home Server has now arrived, and with it a bevy of new features—and one key feature of the older version removed. Eventually, interesting plugins became available—like Servio, which enabled WHS to be a better media server. You can have read access, full access, or no access. Easier login management: Logging in to the first release of WHS was something of a chore.
You could make things easier by using the same characters for your system login and for your account login on the server, and then enabling auto-logon on your PC.
But setting up that arrangement on multiple PCs was tedious and created a security risk. This allows you to have no login on your desktop PC while maintaining secure access to the server. With , you get full support for windows on your desktop connected remotely.
The answer depends on several things:. That decision has generated reams of complaints from heavy WHS version 1 users. The install is simple and professional. Settings Once installed it is very intuitive to use and set up. There is an admin password for the settings box as well. Go to posts. Recommended Comments.

Dave posted a topic in Forum News , March 1, I throw this out every once in a while. Is anyone interested in writing up "semi-formal" reviews here on the forums? I say semi-formal because they don't have to be pro level, just a good attempt at telling the story about the gear. Something you have purchased lately. You don't have to go buy stuff, just incorporate what you have already have purchased.
Hit me up with any questions. You never know where it will lead! Picked By Dave, March 6, Hold on because there is a lot of gear! Let's start with cameras.
These are not just new, and good looking cams, they can now perform people detection and glass break detection. The new cameras also feature expanded ways for customers to save video, including ONVIF Profile S, which enables custom storage and streaming options to personal NAS devices, built-in storage microSD capacity up to GB, as well as free and paid cloud storage options.
This year's camera models include both an indoor and an outdoor model. The outdoor model features a spotlight and siren that can be triggered when motion is detected, deterring potential intruders. The indoor model pans around to give a full degree view of any room and tracks motion. Both include two-way audio. One of my favorite products is Wi-Fi.
